Privacy Policy

Effective May 24, 2026 (version 2026-05-24)

How Bide collects, uses, retains, and protects your personal information. Compliant with CCPA.

Overview

Bide is a location-aware social platform operated from the United States. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. Bide is currently available to United States residents only.

What we collect

  • Account data: email and/or phone number (via Firebase Authentication), handle, display name, bio, interests, date of birth, and home city.
  • Content: posts, comments, votes, scene memberships, reports you file.
  • Location: coordinates you submit for check-ins or post creation. We quantize coordinates to H3 cells before display; precise lat/lng is never returned to other users and is scrubbed when you delete your account.
  • Device: push notification tokens (when you opt in), user-agent string, request country (for region gating only).
  • Legal: the version of these policies you accepted and when, captured at signup and on each re-acceptance.

How we use it

To operate the Service, show you relevant content for your area, enforce community guidelines, protect against abuse, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Who we share with

  • Google Cloud Platform: hosting, database, storage, push notifications.
  • Firebase Authentication: account identity and sign-in.
  • OpenAI: text and image content for safety moderation. No user identifier is sent with the content.
  • Google Safe Browsing: URLs from posts and comments are checked for malicious content. No user identifier is sent.
  • Google Maps: reverse geocoding and place search. Coordinates are sent without your account identifier.

Location privacy

Bide is built to limit precise location exposure. We store H3 cells alongside precise coordinates, but only quantized cells are shown to other users, and distances are fuzzed (rounded into buckets). When you delete your account, your check-in history is fully removed and precise coordinates are scrubbed from your posts and comments.

How long we keep your data

Profile and content: retained while your account is active. Upon account deletion: personal identifiers (email, phone, date of birth, home location, interests, precise coordinates) are removed; check-in history is deleted; posts and comments remain visible with the author shown as “deleted”. Notifications, device tokens, and resolved moderation records are retained for a limited period after their last use; see our retention schedule (forthcoming).

Your CCPA rights

As a California (and broader U.S.) resident you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have about you.
  • Delete your account and the personal information tied to it, exercised via in-app account deletion.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information, via in-app profile editing.
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information. Bide does not use sensitive personal information for any purpose beyond providing the Service.
  • Opt out of sale or sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell or share for this purpose, so no action is required.
  • Non-discrimination: we will not deny service or charge different prices because you exercise these rights.

To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected] or use the in-app account-deletion flow.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including transport encryption (TLS), encryption at rest for our managed databases, and access controls on administrative tooling.

Data transfers

Bide processes data in the United States. The Service is not directed at users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions outside the United States.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy. When we do, we will publish a new dated version and prompt you to acknowledge the new version on next sign-in. We will not retroactively reduce your rights without notice.
